Should You Fix Your Phone or Buy a New One?
From the bench at iFixPhones — 15 E Central St, Franklin, MA 02038.
The one-third rule
If the repair costs less than a third of replacing the phone like-for-like, fix it. Between a third and a half, it depends how much you like the phone. Above half, upgrade — unless the data on it matters more than the phone does.
The combo trick
An older phone with a cracked screen usually has a tired battery too. Doing both at once (we discount combos) often buys two more comfortable years for far less than a trade-in gap.
When we'll tell you not to repair
Board-damaged budget phones, iPads with bent frames, anything where parts cost rivals a used replacement — we'll say so up front. An honest 'don't fix it' is still free.
